英雄事跡和生平簡介
“我有兩個夢想,一個禾下乘涼夢,還有雜交稻覆蓋全球夢,水稻是我們國家和世界第一大糧食作物,民以食為天,食以稻為天,糧食能救一個國家,也可以絆倒一個國家,飯碗要牢牢在中國人自己手上。”
“I have two dreams, one is to enjoy the cool under the rice, and the other is to cover the world with hybrid rice. Rice is the largest food crop in our country and the world. Food is the first necessity of the people. And rice is an important source of the food. Food can save a country. It can also stumble a country. The Chinese people should grab the rice bowl firmly in our hands.”

Yuan Longping, the father of hybrid rice in China, was born in Beijing in 1930. His ancestral home is in De'an County, Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province. Yuan Longping is a Chinese agronomist, known for developing the first hybrid rice varieties in the 1970s.
袁隆平,中國雜交水稻之父,1930年出生於北京。祖籍江西九江市德安縣。袁隆平是中國農學家,因在上世紀70年代培育出第一批雜交水稻品種而聞名。
Hybrid rice has since been grown in dozens of countries in Africa, America, and Asia—providing a robust food source in areas with a high risk of famine. For his contributions, Yuan is always called the "Father of Hybrid Rice" by the Chinese media.
雜交水稻已經在非洲、美洲和亞洲的幾十個國家種植,這為饑荒高發地區提供了充足的食物來源。由於他的貢獻,袁隆平一直被中國媒體稱為“雜交水稻之父”。
It was in the 1970s when Yuan achieved the breakthroughs that would make him a household name. He developed a hybrid strain of rice that recorded an annual yield 20% higher than existing varieties — meaning it could feed an extra 70 million people a year, according to Xinhua.
上世紀70年代袁隆平取得了突破,使他成為家喻戶曉的人物。據新華社報道,他培育出了一種雜交水稻,年產量比現有品種高出20%,這意味著每年可以額外解決7000萬人的吃飯問題。
His work helped transform China from “food deficiency to food security” within three decades, according to the World Food Prize, which was created by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman Borlaug in 1986 to recognize scientists and others who have improved the quality and availability of food.
世界糧食獎頒獎機構提出:他的研究工作幫助中國在30年內從“糧食短缺轉變為糧食安全”。世界糧食獎1986年由諾貝爾和平獎得主諾曼·博洛格設立,用以表彰為提高糧食質量和供應的科學家和其他人士。
Yuan and his team worked with dozens of countries around the world to address issues of food security as well as malnutrition.
袁隆平爺爺和他的團隊與世界上幾十個國家合作,解決糧食安全和營養不良問題。
Even in his later years, Yuan did not stop doing research. In 2017, working with a Hunan agricultural school, he helped create a strain of low-cadmium indica rice for areas suffering from heavy metal pollution, reducing the amount of cadmium in rice by more than 90%.
即使到了晚年,袁隆平也沒有停止研究。2017年,他與湖南一所農業學校合作,為遭受重金屬汙染的地區培育了一種低鎘秈稻,使水稻中的鎘含量減少了90%以上。
